Kevin the Warrior Monk by ArtbyMaryC Kevin the Warrior Monk by ArtbyMaryC
So, I found an awsome photomanip tutorial by :iconsheharzad-arshad: which inspired me to try it. I've always wanted to do something w/some pics my friend K gave me from his trip to China a couple years back, and this seemed perfect. I wanted to give it an early morning feel w/the mist and a yellow gradient to one side for sunlight. I tried to make rays but didn't really know how and my attempts were very akward so I just used a plain gradient. I'm told the sign on the door says Shaolin Temple. I'm planning on hanging on to this until x-mas or some other occasion to get it printed 15x22 and gift it to him. I hope he is pleased with it :) *update he loved it*

I cropped the photo down alot to give it a vertical format. When I have a chance I'll add a link to the original photo for comparison. I don't hav any flash software so I couldn't do the phasing thing in the tutorial.

For textures I layered on by :iconcoco-stock: on the clothing (although I think it got blended down too much and might not be visible enough). by :iconenframed: for the temple walls. The lower temple walls (the brown bits to the sides of the stairs): but has since been removed from DA :/ for the ground and stairs was by :iconshockbeam: And finally a stock photoshop pattern for the foggyness.

advanced critique: I do think the body shading is a bit too soft and i do think the outlines are a bit too thick.. but damn, i like the pose soo much, the yellow lightning on his face the mist, the cool costume,he looks so much like a shaolin monk, cause they look a bit different from most chinese people in the cities.. and i also train shaolin kung fu a bit, more of the iron skills and the chi meditation, cause in here nobody know the techniques..so i use more of the normal kicks for kick side kick round house etc. and practising for iron palm..

Pretty cool. I gotta check out that tutorial. I thought I was decent at photo shop but I still haven't perfected that technique.

I like how you've done the guy. Kind of reminds me of those 'King of Fighters' character pics. I also like the door.

(I think the writing says 'Shaolin Temple';)
